Brief History of HCP:

In September 2004 the initial idea emerged to create a working group between several organizations and Hispanic leaders to fill the need for a positive, grass-root driven, and solution-oriented organization which served to educate its members rather than simply asking them to show up. Research and interviews were conducted with leading US companies and politicians to explore support for such an organization leading to the founding of the Hispanic Community for Policy (HCP). In May 2006, HCP filed for incorporation in the Commonwealth of Virginia and filed for status as a 501(c)(4) advocacy organization with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service.

In 2007, HCP's request for not-for-profit 501(c)(4) status was granted by the IRS, its website was launched, and in August HCP secured its first office, staff and interns. Several strategic projects originally created in conjunction with HCP Staff, Directors and Advisory Panel Members were initiated, including the Latin America Caucus, The Presidential Candidate Policies toward Latin America and the National Hispanic Debate. Other mission-directed projects such as Policy Papers, HCP's Facebook website pages as well as Ideas Del Pueblo, having been conceived by HCP Staff and new Membership, were created.
